Exalting Jesus Day and Night with Prayer and Worship

What Is an Intercessory Missionary?

The Lord is calling forth a generation to embrace a full-time occupation of ministry in prayer and worship. At KING's House, we refer to this calling as the intercessory missionary. This role is more than a title—it's a lifestyle rooted in the pursuit of God's heart, and the partnership with His purposes on earth through consistent, sacrificial intercession and worship.

Definition

An intercessory missionary is one who commits to ministering to the Lord in prayer and worship while living a missionary lifestyle. At KING's House, we ask those walking in this calling to dedicate 20 hours a week to the prayer room—including at least two hours of prayer a day, six days a week.
Biblical Foundations
Though the title "intercessory missionary" doesn’t appear in the Bible, its function is deeply rooted in Scripture. From the worship order of heaven described in Revelation 4–5, to Isaiah’s prophetic call for watchmen on the wall (Isa. 62:6–7), we see God's desire for unceasing prayer and worship. Jesus emphasized prayer consistently (Mt. 6:10, Lk. 18:7–8), and the apostles followed His example (Acts 6:4).
The Call Today
We live in a prophetic hour. In the past 20 years, over 10,000 prayer ministries have been established globally. This is not by man’s design, but a move of the Holy Spirit to prepare the Church for Jesus’ return. We believe God is raising up intercessory missionaries in every tribe and tongue—not necessarily in one building, but through regional partnerships and united expressions of worship and prayer.
Old and New Testament Witness
David established full-time singers and musicians in the tabernacle as commanded by God (1 Chr. 9:33; 23:5). This model of day-and-night worship was carried out by multiple generations of reformers and revivalists in the Old Testament. In the New Testament, Jesus, Paul, and the early church modeled lives of continual prayer (Acts 2:42; 1 Thes. 5:17). Anna in Luke 2 is a beautiful picture of the intercessory missionary—devoted to night-and-day prayer and fasting, proclaiming the coming of Christ.
Who Is This Calling For?
Not everyone is called to this life, and that’s okay. The highest calling is obedience to God’s voice—whether that’s in the prayer room, the marketplace, or the home. But if your heart burns for worship, prayer, and missions from a place of intimacy, this might be your path.
Throughout Church History
From the monasteries of Bangor, Ireland, to the Moravians at Herrnhut, history bears witness to the Spirit raising up communities of unceasing prayer. These movements flowed in both worship and evangelism—sending out missionaries who carried the presence and message of Jesus.
Will You Take Your Place?
We’re praying for one million full-time intercessory missionaries in our generation—singers, musicians, gatekeepers, intercessors, and servants who will prepare the way of the Lord through prayer.
