Old and New Testament Witness
David established full-time singers and musicians in the tabernacle as commanded by God (1 Chr. 9:33; 23:5). This model of day-and-night worship was carried out by multiple generations of reformers and revivalists in the Old Testament. In the New Testament, Jesus, Paul, and the early church modeled lives of continual prayer (Acts 2:42; 1 Thes. 5:17). Anna in Luke 2 is a beautiful picture of the intercessory missionary—devoted to night-and-day prayer and fasting, proclaiming the coming of Christ.
Who Is This Calling For?
Not everyone is called to this life, and that’s okay. The highest calling is obedience to God’s voice—whether that’s in the prayer room, the marketplace, or the home. But if your heart burns for worship, prayer, and missions from a place of intimacy, this might be your path.
